Psalm 56:3
Surrounded by water, trees, and rolling hills, Camp Firelight is the perfect location for every Camper’s favorite summer activities! During each assembly session, Campers join first-time camp counselor Sam and Lu (short for Lumen), the lightning bug puppet, and learn to face their fears while trusting in God. Each day, Campers see Counselor Sam face new challenges, from as simple as leading Campers on a hike to as intimidating as meeting a new and wise nature expert. With the help of Lu the Lightning Bug and the Camp Counselor Guidebook, Counselor Sam and our Campers explore timeless Bible stories that show how Old and New Testament Campers trusted God in the face of their own fears and went on to do great things in God’s name.
Through these stories, this program will teach us about people in the Bible who experienced the gift of a trusting relationship with God. In addition, it will teach us to trust that God will go with us, lead the way, share wisdom, to give us peace, and spark joy as we celebrate the good news of Jesus in our own lives and in the lives of others. We will also learn ways we can connect with and put our trust in God whenever we are afraid, challenged, or called to do God’s work in the world and share the Good News of God’s love through Jesus Christ.
VBS will be Sunday, July 14 - Wednesday, July 17, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Our VBS is open to children who are entering preschool - 5th grade for the 2024 - 2025 school year. They will have an opening and closing each night in the sanctuary and will rotate between stations. The stations will be recreation, crafts, storytelling, and science. Check out our FAQ below for more information.
Sunday - Wednesday, 6:00 - 8:00 PM
Dinner will be served for all participants and family members every night before VBS begins at 5:15 PM in the fellowship hall building.
VBS is for all kids going into preschool - 5th grade for the 2024-2025 school year.
At St. James UMC, all volunteers attending VBS are Safe Sanctuary trained and have had background checks done prior to VBS. Each group will have (2) adults. At each station, there will also be (2) station leaders, and you will always be joined with other groups at each station as well.
Groups will be made up of similar grade levels (Preschool, K-1st, 1st-2nd, 2nd-3rd, or 4th-5th.)
Absolutely! We try to accommodate as much as possible. As long as your kids and their friends are within a close enough age range we can put them in the same group if requested. Please make sure to request it when signing up.
The only people that can pick up your child from VBS are you the parents/guardians that signed up the child and dropped them off, or the emergency contact/pick-up listed on their sign-up paperwork.
